I had the honor of being asked by Ed Trask (one of Richmond’s finest) to participate in a city beautification program sponsored by Altria. The program brought together four muralist to paint murals and installations along Broad St that houses a number of art galleries and is the back drop for the monthly First Friday events. It just so happens that the city is trying to brand this area as the ‘Arts District’. The mural is a salute to when Broad St was at one time known as ‘Theatre Row’ because it housed many of the theaters that were popular during the vaudeville era.

This past spring and fall I had the oppurtunity to work with ART 180 again teaching a mural arts class. This semester our site was in Church Hill at the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club. The biggest challenge was combining all of the ideas that each child had to create one cohesive piece. In the end we ended up with a mural that each child could identify their individual idea as well as the collective ideas. This mural was successful for two reasons ; the kids learned that whatever they dream they can create and that they can have a positive impact in their neighborhoods that will be around for a long time. Stay tuned to see what we do for the summer session.

Stones Throw from Sébastien Bauer on Vimeo.

So much of my work is imagination driven and inspired, I had to make a section on this site that showed the brain behind Ham?. This Video highlights one of my favorite Record Labels. Its star headliner, Madlib was one of the first artist who really got me to open my mind up to explore different genre’s of music and culture. I though this video might be a great opener to anyone out there who has heard of or has skiped over Stones throw as your typical Label. In any case art is art and I definitly feel and relate to the artist on this label. Do what you enjoy, not what makes you the most money

Enjoy!

This piece is no where near finished, but I’m posting this because of the nostalgia it brought me. The piece is not named yet but it’s inspiration was brought on by my feeling about the Patriot Act. Its been fun creating this piece because of the amount of time its taking me to draft out the background. Something about that just brings me joy. Architecture still runs deep in my work.

I had the pleasure of Participating in a Event here at Art Space that included 9 other Graff Artist. The event gave us a 5 days to Install the piece of your liking on the canvas/walls of the studio. At the time the BP oil spill was the talk of the town which along with a friends interesting solute pic gave me this vision.
